The Indigenous Kingdom (Fondom) of Nkar, in Bui Division, Northwest Region of Cameroon, has established the Nkar Indigenous Commission for Future Generations and Sustainability.
The new commission has been created under the authority of His Majesty Fon Molo II, the Traditional Leader and King of the Nkar people, who also serves as Patron of the Commission. Since his enthronement in September 2008, Fon Molo II has focused on promoting development and sustainability throughout Nkar and Dzekwa as a whole. His vision includes establishing long-term governance that encourages peace, inter-religion dialogue, sustainable development, climate change mitigation, biodiversity and cultural heritage preservation, and the wellbeing of both present and future generations. These objectives are reflected in his ongoing efforts to promote agroforestry ecosystems in Nkar for carbon credits, while also working towards creating a green city that boosts agriculture as a source of income for the people of Nkar and Dzekwa at large.

The initiative in Nkar Fondom is coordinated by Mfoome Wàhbin Nkar (Mr Collins Ndzegha) and Mr Arthur Bongsiysi Bime, who is the National Youth President for Nkar. The executive board consists of 15 members representing various sectors, including the traditional council, development associations such as NKADECA, youth and women’s groups, as well as academic and research institutions. The initial membership of the Nkar Commission is as Follows: Ndzegha Collins (Chair), Bongsiysi Arthur Bimi (Vice Chair), Quintoline Sendze (Secretary), Regina Bohti (Financial Secretary), Donald Barah (Treasurer), Woman coordinator: Celestine Moye (Women’s Wing), John Yomo (Youth Wing), and Reverend Father Cornelius Sahfe (Project Manager).
The commission is strategically advised by Shufaay Ntumfoyn Dr Nsah Mala, a native of Mbesa and an expert in arts, literature, culture, environmental humanities, sustainability science, planetary wellbeing, future generations, foresight, and anticipatory or long-term governance. Dr Nsah Mala collaborates with several international organizations, including UNESCO’s MOST BRIDGES Coalition and the School of International Futures, to promote the UN Pact for the Future and the Declaration on Future Generations worldwide. His approach involves engaging stakeholders across all levels local, regional, national, continental, and global adopting a whole-of-society strategy.
His Majesty Fon Molo II appreciates Dr Nsah Mala and his team who are available to support the development and implementation of similar future-oriented frameworks in other indigenous kingdoms, municipal and regional councils, academic institutions, civil society groups, government ministries, national assemblies, and presidential offices across Cameroon, Africa, and beyond. And His Majesty King Molo II pledges the readiness of his Kingdom to become part of these wider initiatives.

Drawing on frameworks such as the UN Declaration on Future Generations, the Wales Protocol, and the SOIF Handbook, as well as initiatives in indigenous Fondoms (Kingdoms like Mbessa and countries like Cameroon, Kenya, Wales, and Finland, the Nkar Indigenous Commission aims to make meaningful contributions to youth empowerment, health and wellbeing, long-term governance, peacebuilding, cultural promotions, and sustainable development.
